A Few Days of Play

I traveled to Texas last week for the second time ever.

My time there began with a fun visit to Denton, just north of Dallas, to reconnect with good friends at Plumbline and College Life. These two groups have been wonderful partners with World Impact St. Louis in recent years, sending us faithful volunteers each spring to help run our youth programs. This year we are hoping to run an identical program to last March's Spring Break Day Camp with the help of our friends from Denton. We are also eagerly searching for up to 10 college-aged individuals to serve as summer interns here next summer!

To those of you who I got to see while was in Denton: thanks for the hospitality and fun times! Can't wait to see you again!

After my time in Denton I took a few days off to play in Dallas. I met up with George again and together we explored the city. Good times!

We stumbled upon the Dallas Farmers Market... I am a true tourist at heart and as soon as I saw this tractor I knew I had to have my picture taken with it. George complied nicely with my requests to take our pictures with everything in sight from produce to ceramics.

In the spirit of fall we decided to carve pumpkins one day, for fun. We were ambitious carvers, choosing the two hardest patterns in the kit, and my fun bordered dangerously on work as I sliced out the intricate details on my pumpkin. We both prevailed and proudly displayed our pumpkin art outside for all the world to see.

If anyone likes the old show "Who's line is it anyway?" you would love Comedy Sportz. It's an improv club aimed at good, clean, family-friendly humor. We laughed ourselves silly during the show, especially when George and his friend, Bill, got pulled onto the stage when they tried to volunteer me and Julie as participants. They were quickly informed of the rule, "If you volunteer your friends, you volunteer yourself!"

Geo's church had a fall festival Sunday night so, being the good sports that we are, we dressed up to fit in with the crowd. Can you guess what we are? Hawaiian tourists! Maybe my next trip should be to Hawaii so I can see how accurate my costume was...
