March Happenings

I know it's already April, but before I put up my April Update I wanted to fill you all in on some of the things that kept me busy in the month of March:

Cooking Elective
We tried a new activity in our after school program and it was a hit! Once a week we held a "cooking class" for kids. It was so popular, though, that we avoided almost everything having to do with knives, ovens, and complicated recipes for safety and sanity reasons. So it was more of a "playing with food" class for kids. It was really fun, and the kids did learn some new things. We tried to teach them new ways to enjoy fruits, vegetable, and healthy snacks. On the last day we had a feast with almost everything we had learned to put together. Here we are enjoying our lemonade, biscuit pizzas, and ants on a log!

Buhler MB Church
For the second year in a row Buhler sent a fantastic work group to serve with us for several days this month. They worked really hard cleaning, painting, and prepping our building for program use. They painted A LOT. Our entire basement has a new face! They also got our Family Life Center ready for use for the kids program we held the week after they left us.

Spring Break 2k7
Just days after Buhler left 17 college students from Denton, TX arrived to help us run a week-long day camp for kids in our neighborhood. It was a huge success and so much fun! The kids got to play in the gym, participate in crazy/messy games, learn about Bible characters, dress up during drama class, and so much more! It was an exhausting week but definitely worth all the work that went into it!

So that's just a little sampling of what March looked like for me. April is promising to be just as jam-packed... Here we go!
