Life is busy. Here is the cliffs notes outline of what I have been up to lately:
1. I hung out with teenagers from Beloit, Kansas and Fulton, Missouri and Gretna, Nebraska and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. All of them were here at different times for summer missions trips to experience urban ministry and serve with us for a week or so. They made me feel tired and old (especially when I realized all the kids in one group were born in the nineties).
2. I watched 2 full seasons of "One Tree Hill". When you don't have cable you borrow things like this from your friends to keep you occupied in the off-season.
3. I held a baby that was less than 24 hours old. Shanna and Dave (World Impact Staff Intern) had a little girl on Thursday night. Cheyenne Faith is beautiful. And small.
4. I became addicted to the show "So you think you can Dance". My favorite was Hawk. Too bad he isn't a US citizen.
5. I saw the temperature rise to 104.7 degrees on our thermometer outside the building where I live and work. St. Louis is hot. Very hot.
6. I discovered that the Atlanta Falcons have once again added Bryan Randall (my favorite Hokie football player ever) to their active roster. Yay team. This confirms my decision to maintain my status as a semi-interested Falcons fan and not switch my loyalties to the Rams.
7. I added every Hokie Football game date to my calendar. Now I just need to find access to ESPN to watch the games. I still plan to track down an alumni association here in STL.
It doesn't sound like too much when it's written down, but man have I been busy. Good busy. Fun busy. Fulfilling busy. But still busy. And summer is just getting started.
Monday is the first day of summer day camp. I am the Arts & Crafts elective teacher. I'll try not to let the kids eat any paste.
We are planning two workdays to continue rehab on my future apartment. It's right across the street from a 22-homesite Habitat project. Sometimes I am tempted to steal workers from them to get my house done faster. So far I have not given in to that temptation. I'll keep you updated on my will power.
We have six more weeks of volunteer groups coming to serve with us. I plan to be a pro at coordinating volunteers by August. Then I can live up to my job title.
