Workday

Whenever someone hears that I studied Building Construction in college the next question seems to be "What are you going to do with that now?"

This past weekend we worked on insulating the future Family Life Center here at World Impact St. Louis. This large space was once a boxing gym when our building was the NorthSide YMCA. When construction is finished it will be a multi-purpose meeting room with a commercial kitchen attached. We plan to use it for meetings, banquets, summer camp, seminars, teaching space, and so much more!!!

We really need this space this summer for our planned six-week daycamp. Without it we will not be able to host as many children from the local neighborhood for daily activities. We still need more financial funding and we still need volunteers to help on workdays, but we hope to have this project completed in the next few months.

The facility has been a dream for more than 7 years and now that I am on staff I get to help coordinate the project. I have been working with the project manager, a retired architect on our St. Louis Board, to coordinate volunteers, contractors, materials, and lots more. Want to help? Just let me know!!! I can now teach you how to install steel studs and fiberglass insulation.

And that is what I am doing with my college education. My parents must be so proud!

:o)
